The Puppeteers of America bestow special honors, including The Jim Henson Award for Innovation, recognizing innovation in puppetry that is technological, dramaturgical or collaborative in nature.
Jim Henson served as President of the organization in 1962 - 1963. Frank Oz's father, Mike Oznowicz, also served as President. His term lasted from 1974 - 1976.
Caroll Spinney and his wife, Debra, are also actively involved with the Puppeteers of America.
Several who have worked with the Muppets and The Jim Henson Company have been members of the Puppeteers of America.
