Primates

A primate is an animal belonging to the biological order Primates, the group that contains all the species commonly related to the monkeys, apes (including humans), and lemurs. All primates have five fingers, a generalized dental pattern, and an unspecialized body plan. Other distinguishing features of primates are fingernails, opposable thumbs, and long, inward-closing fingers.

Muppet primates, while not commonly seen during Jim Henson's lifetime (other than Quongo and Wilf), have been much more prominently used in recent years, especially on The Animal Show. Among the most popular primates to debut in recent years are Sal Manilla from Muppets Tonight and Treelo from Bear in the Big Blue House.
