Pete is the owner of Pete's Luncheonette in The Muppets Take Manhattan. A Greek immigrant who started out with nothing, Pete is a crusty but good-hearted restaurateur. He has a philosophical side, exhibited through his repeated phrase, "Peoples is peoples."

Pete takes events and "peoples" in their stride, and is an equal opportunity employer, grudgingly hiring Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Rizzo the Rat and his friends as waiters and kitchen staff. His other employee is Jenny, his daughter.
