Don't Eat the Pictures

Paul Dooley (b. 1928) is a popular character actor whose films include Breaking Away, Popeye, Sixteen Candles, A Mighty Wind, and the Cars series. He has played recurring roles in a number of TV series, including The Ben Stiller Show, Tales of the City, Dream On, My So-Called Life, The Golden Girls, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Practice, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Desperate Housewives.

On Sesame Street, Dooley played a cop in a film insert about a stolen bathtub (First: Episode 0491). He additionally did voices for a number of animated segments produced by John Paratore, including one about a camouflaged parrot (First: Episode 0516). In 1983, he appeared as the museum guard in the Sesame Street TV special Don't Eat the Pictures.

He was head writer of The Electric Company for the first season, sometimes doing voice-overs and appearing in film inserts, and the character Paul the Gorilla (played by Jim Boyd) was named after him. He also appeared as Patrick Martin in the original "unhappy ending" of the Frank Oz film Little Shop of Horrors.
