The various puppets/costumes of Oscar the Grouch created for stage shows and public appearances, including Sesame Street Live and Sesame Place. In these appearances Oscar is portrayed as a puppet operated from inside a giant prop trash can. This puppet is larger than the real Oscar puppet, so he will not look small compared to the other Sesame Street character walk-arounds, but very often the opposite is the case. A walk-around, costumed version of Oscar debuted at Sesame Place in May 2012.
| Full Body Puppet/Costume | Year | Stage Production | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| | Mid-late 1970s | Ice Follies/Holiday on Ice | Oscar as he appears in the Ice Follies Sesame Street shows. Oscar is a puppet operated from inside a large trash can. Performed to a vocal track by Caroll Spinney. This version of Oscar is able to walk with his feet (worn by his performer) sticking out of the bottom of the trash can. |
| 2000 | Let's Be Friends | Oscar as he appears in Sesame Street Live, also as a puppet. Performed to a vocal track by Caroll Spinney |
| | 1989 | Silly Dancing | In one of his rare appearances as a walk-around costume - and outside of his trash can - Oscar joins Grundgetta in the Everything in the Wrong Place Ball. |
| 2004 | Sesame Place | This puppet is wheeled out via his trash can which is perched on top of building blocks and does not speak. This puppet appears in the park posing for pictures with guests. |
| | May 2007 | Sesame Place | Appears in the show Abby Cadabby's Treasure Hunt. This Oscar puppet is much smaller, and is operated by a stick mechanism inside the puppet. |
| | February 2009 | Elmo's Green Thumb | Oscar walking while inside his trash can. Appears this way occasionally. |
| | May 2012 | Universal Studios Singapore | An actual walk-around version of Oscar, as opposed to a puppet. Oscar is not only able to walk while inside his trash can, but can also stop to sit down while inside it. Like in his illustrated appearances, Oscar wears the trash can lid on his head. This walk-around debuted at Sesame Place in May 2012. |
