Number Guy[1] is a banjo strumming folksinger who appeared in a series of Sesame Street animated inserts with a counting motif. Produced by David and Adam Rudman's Spiffy Pictures in 1996, the segments were built around a musical variation of Bob Dylan's 1962 folk song "Blowin' in the Wind". The folksinger asks how many of a specific animal will perform a a task. In reference to Dylan's song, each sketch ends with the banjo player responding "The answer, my friend, is..." right before the number is revealed.
In Episode 3912, Number Guy appeared in a story that Elmo wrote, called "Elmo in Numberland". This led to the number 9 segment.
