Nell Carter (1948-2003) was an Emmy and Tony Award winning African American comic actress and singer best known for her starring role on the sitcom Gimme a Break (alongside Joey Lawrence and Matthew Lawrence). Nell Carter guest starred as herself on Shalom Sesame and as Molly's mother on Big Bag.

Other credits include playing Miss Hannigan in a 1997 Broadway revival of the musical Annie, the Broadway musical Ain't Misbehavin', Night of 100 Stars, and voicing Glory Grant in Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
