"My Soul Is a Witness" is a traditional spiritual. Not to be confused with the similarly titled spiritual "Witness" (aka "Witness for My Lord"), the song extolls the fact that the singer's life and behavior are testimonies to the goodness of God.
Pearl Bailey gives a rousing rendition of it in The Muppet Show Episode 305, performing against a minimal church set. Kermit announces that the selection is based on the fact that Pearl's father was a preacher. The backing group, dressed in church choir robes, includes Zoot, Janice, Wayne, Nigel, and assorted pigs and Whatnots.
