Conceptional artwork

Muppetville was a concept for a Muppet-themed amusement park first explored by Jim Henson around 1987. Artwork was commissioned and created by Kurt Hanks before the idea was eventually abandoned.[1]

Henson abandoned the idea, conceding that "Disney does it so well that we could never do it better."[2]

After entering into negotiations with the Walt Disney Company in 1989, Henson shifted his theme park aspirations into developing attractions for an entire Muppet-themed area within Disney's Disney-MGM Studios theme park and planning a Muppet-themed take over of Disneyland in California (including production of Muppet*Vision 3D, the Here Come the Muppets and Days of Swine and Roses stage shows, and integration into Hollywood's Pretty Woman; along with development of the ultimately unrealized Here Come the Muppets and Muppet All-Star Motorcade parades, The Great Muppet Movie Ride, and The Great Gonzo's Pandemonium Pizza Parlor).
