Mr. Hooper's Picture figured prominently in Episode 1839 of Sesame Street. The episode, which addressed the issue of Mr. Hooper's death following the real life death of actor Will Lee, involved Big Bird handing out drawings he's made of all of his human friends. Big Bird is anxious to give Mr. Hooper his portrait, but the adults explain that Mr. Hooper is never coming back.

Subsequently, the picture was hung in Big Bird's nest area, becoming a prominent background prop and a continuing memorial to Mr. Hooper. The picture has been displayed prominently not only on Sesame Street, but was also glimpsed in Follow That Bird (though a different picture, depicting Mr. Hooper facing the opposite direction, was used) and in illustrated form by Joe Mathieu in I'll Miss You, Mr. Hooper. The actual drawing was rendered by Caroll Spinney, Big Bird's performer and a cartoonist in his own right.

In Episode 3611, bird art collector Leo Birdelli offered Big Bird one hundred bags of birdseed in exchange for the picture. Big Bird refused, explaining that it was hard enough saying goodbye to Mr. Hooper once, and he couldn't say goodbye again.
