Mike Tarkanian is the short-tempered editor of the Daily Chronicle in The Great Muppet Caper. An old friend of Kermit and Fozzie's Dad, he hires Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear (along with Gonzo) for sentimentality's sake. However, he comes to regret the decision after they miss covering the theft of Lady Holiday's jewels. He threatens to fire the trio, but reluctantly agrees to let them travel to England and try to get an exclusive interview with Lady Holiday.

Behind the Scenes

While Jack Warden was Jim Henson's first choice for the editor’s role, other actors Henson considered for the part included Jim Backus (Thurston Howell on Gilligan's Island), Tom Bosley (Howard Cunningham on Happy Days), Jackie Cooper, Hume Cronyn, David Doyle (Bosley on Charlie's Angels), Charles Durning, Broderick Crawford, Ed Asner, Martin Balsam (Milton Arbogast in Psycho), Harvey Korman, Walter Matthau, Jack Klugman (Oscar Madison on The Odd Couple), Jack Lemmon, and Lionel Stander.^[1]
