Michelangelo (1475–1564) was a sculptor, painter, architect and poet, who, along with Leonardo da Vinci, is considered one of the most important artists from the Italian Renaissance period.
Of his many famous works, "The Creation of Adam," which adorns the ceiling of Vatican City's Sistine Chapel, has been frequently featured in popular culture perhaps because of Michelangelo's depiction of the Christian God, itself modeled after the image of Zeus.
- Kermit sits in for Adam in The Muppet Show Pitch Reel.
- In the Muppet Art: 1999 Calendar, it is Statler who breathes life into Kermit.
- Michaelangelo, one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was named after Michelangelo and appeared in the Creature Shop films Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. A cartoon version of the Turtle also appeared with the Muppet Babies in Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue.
