Mel is one of the quartet of monsters featured in the Monster Clubhouse segments on Sesame Street. He has blue fur, with a wild mop of hair and two small horns. His speech sounds like Monster language to the home viewer, but his Monster Clubhouse friends Phoebe, Googel, and Narf can understand him with no trouble.
The puppet used for Mel bears a striking resemblence to the members of the Shagri-Las, although Mel possesses horns, a chubbier body and a thinner face.
He appeared as one of the ten monsters in the Furry Monster Parade in The Street We Live On to determine the number of the day.
