Matthew Brooks joined the Jim Henson Company in 1993, working as a puppet builder for the movies Muppet Treasure Island, Elmo in Grouchland, Muppets in Space, and many television series including Jim Henson's Animal Show, The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss (nominated for an Emmy), Bear in the Big Blue House, and Muppets Tonight; for the latter two shows, he also worked as an additional puppeteer.

He has also worked as a puppeteer/puppet builder on The Book of Pooh, Crank Yankers and It's a Big, Big World, and recently as a set dresser for Laika, Inc. on the feature film ParaNorman.
