Marvin the Paranoid Android appears in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Just as in the earlier versions of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's saga, Marvin is an intelligent robot suffering from terminal depression. Made from fibreglass, the Marvin costume puppet weighed 55 pounds.

Marvin is a creation of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation, whose slogans tout him and others like him as "Your plastic pal who's fun to be with!" Marvin is programmed with GPP --- Genuine People Personality. His trademark quote is "I think you ought to know, I'm feeling very depressed."
