"Maniac" is a 1980s synthpop song co-written by Michael Sembello. Inspired by a horror film of the same name, the song's lyrics were altered for its inclusion in the 1983 film Flashdance, where it reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, dethroned by Billy Joel's "Tell Her About It."
The song was performed in Jim Henson Presents: Muppet Babies Live.
In The Muppets episode "Pig Out," after karaoke night at Rowlf's Tavern, Scooter says he lost his glasses while he was performing "Maniac" from Flashdance and he stepped on them "like, 400 times."
