Mad Monty is a pirate in Muppet Treasure Island. Along with Polly Lobster and Clueless Morgan, he's one of the main conspirators and henchmen to Long John Silver. His eyes peek out from his grungy stovepipe hat.

Mad Monty has a penchant for violence. In the song "Sailing for Adventure", Monty says that he loves to hang his victims and watch their faces turn blue as they suffocate and "try to walk in the air". Later, in the song "Professional Pirate", Monty says he likes "taking things apart" as evidence he could have been a surgeon. His name and attitude imply that Monty might be a violent psychopath.

Mad Monty is the only pirate of which a PVC figure was made. He is sculpted with Polly Lobster on his hat.

Performer Jerry Nelson expressed his opinions on Mad Monty in an interview:

Although Mad Monty was another character I never felt highly comfortable with. I don’t know why. Some things I liked about him, but other things never came together as a character. And that was totally my fault. And I realize too that nobody else might’ve noticed that.[1]

Andrew Spooner played Mad Monty in the scene where Gonzo's arms and legs are stretched out. His line "In your dreams!" remained undubbed.[2]

Mad Monty appears in Muppets Meet the Classics: Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm. He features in "Faithful Sweetums" as the captain of King Gonzo's ship.

Since 2015, the Mad Monty puppet is on display at the Center for Puppetry Arts as part of their permanent Worlds of Puppetry exhibit.
