Fozzie Bear in The Muppets Go to the Movies.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (abbreviated as MGM) is a movie studio known for its musicals in the Golden Age of Hollywood (including The Wizard of Oz and Singin' in the Rain), as well as classics such as Gone with the Wind and the theatrical cartoons of Hanna-Barbera and Tex Avery.

The studio's mascot was Leo the Lion, whose roar opened nearly every film (with exceptions such as 2001: A Space Odyssey). The logo has been spoofed multiple times in Muppet productions, including by Animal at the start of The Great Muppet Caper and Fozzie Bear in lion's garb in The Muppets Go to the Movies.

A Sesame Street parody intro (for The Lion King) was introduced as a "Walt Dizzy Film," with a small Warner Bros.-like logo below, and an MGM-like bannered circle with a chicken in place of the studio's trademark lion.

Notes[]

  • A stock lion image used to represent Leo for stills of the MGM logo also appears in the animated Sesame Street insert "Alphabet Jungle," appearing within a letter b for "big, bad roar."
