Little Chrissy and the Alphabeats

Little Chrissy and the Alphabeats is a Sesame Street band that first appeared in 1973. The leader is Little Chrissy, backed up by Green and Lavender Anything Muppets in red shirts with pompadour hairstyles known as the Alphabeats.

The performers for the group included Christopher Cerf as Little Chrissy, and Jeff Moss as the Lavender Alphabeat. The Green Alphabeat, who didn't have a consistent voice or puppeteer, was performed by Jerry Nelson and Richard Hunt among others.

In the group's first appearance, "Count it Higher," the Alphabeats had a wilder look, with wider eyes and messier hair. The color of their hair was also different, with the Green Alphabeat sporting spiky black hair and the Lavender one with an unkempt blond hairdo. In this appearance, there were also three Alphabeats, the third being a Hot Pink Anything Muppet (voiced by Jerry Nelson) with orange hair who wore a blue-and-white striped shirt. This was his only gig with the band.

In addition to performing their own numbers, Little Chrissy and the Alphabeats have occasionally provided back-up music for Don Music in "Sesame Street News Flash" segments. In the early 1990's, Big Jeffy (also voiced by Moss) appeared in place of the lavender Alphabeat on a number of occasions including in the numbers "Gonna Rock You to Sleep", "I Go to School", and "Startin' Kindergarten".
