"Let's Hear it for Me" was one of the original pieces written by Kander and Ebb for the Barbra Streisand musical Funny Lady. The film, a sequel to the Fanny Brice biopic Funny Girl, also featured "Great Day" and "It's Only a Paper Moon".

The song was performed in the 1985 stage show The Muppet Show on Tour: 2nd Edition.
