Let's Sing a Song That Everybody Knows was written for the Sesame Street Sing-Along! album.

At the album's open, Bert and Ernie drive a bus to visit Bert's Uncle Louie on his farm. However, Bert points out that it will be a long trip, so they try to think of something to do in the meantime. After figuring out what they can't do on a bus, Ernie suggests through song that they sing something that everyone can sing along to, leading to a medley of songs. First, Bert sings "The Bear Went Over the Mountain," then Ernie sings "The Eensey Weensey Spider," then Bert sings "The Alphabet Song," and then Ernie sings "George Washington Bridge," which, as Ernie says, "Even if you don't know this song, the words are very easy."

The track was edited for rereleases such as Sing-Along Travel Songs, omitting some of the earlier dialogue, including a reference to picking up their friends along the way.

The entire medley was performed by the cast in the opening scene of Episode 1808, led by Bob, Big Bird, Herry, Telly, and Forgetful Jones. The song was later performed by the cast in Episode 3622.
