This article is about an upcoming project, product, or production. |
In June 2006, plans were announced for a late-night talk show for TBS called Late Night Buffet produced by The Jim Henson Company. Like most talk shows, Late Night Buffet would feature celebrity guests. The twist is that the show would star puppets as the host and other supporting cast roles. Like traditional talk shows, each episode would be taped in front of a live studio audience.
The program will not feature Muppet Show family characters (owned by Disney); rather, Late Night Buffet will create and focus on a new cast of puppet characters created by the Henson Company.
"Late Night Buffet" has not been listed as a "children's show" (and members of the live studio audience must be over 18). Henson hope to reach a more grown-up audience – similar to the target group of Jim Henson's Puppet Improv.
The cast includes Brian Henson and Bill Barretta.
Michael Wright (TBS senior vice president of original programming) said that "it's a different way to approach the late-night talk show… It takes the Henson brand's intelligence and warmth and mixes it with a little wickedness and fun."
Two pilot episodes were taped before a live audience at the Jim Henson Company studios on July 22, 2006. The air dates/time and other details have not been released.
