Lady and the Tramp was a 1955 Walt Disney animated feature film about the exploits of a refined Cocker Spaniel named Lady, and a stray mutt called Tramp. The first animated film to be filmed in CinemaScope widescreen, the film was based on a short story that Walt read in Cosmopolitan in 1943, and refined and expanded by the author and other Disney story men. A financial success at the box, although not a critical one, the film has since gone on to be named to the American Film Institute's list of the "100 Greatest Love Stories of All Time."
