"At age 18, Kirk Thatcher began his career by working at George Lucas's Industrial Light and Magic. In a span of three years Thatcher designed, built, painted, and puppeteered creatures for numerous films including Return of the Jedi, Star Trek II, Star Trek III, E.T., Poltergeist, and Gremlins. After starting a production company for director David Fincher, Thatcher became a concept artist and designer on a number of rock videos, and later served as an associate producer on Star Trek IV. But his longest professional association has been with The Jim Henson Company, where Thatcher has worked as a writer, designer, producer, and director for the past 19 years. His first Henson production was The Jim Henson Hour (1988), which was followed by the television series Dinosaurs (1991), a show in which he created, developed, produced, and voiced characters. An Emmy® winner for his work on ABC's Muppets Tonight, Thatcher also directed the first ever made-for-television Muppet movie, It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas, for NBC Studios. The Muppets' Wizard of Oz is scheduled to air on ABC in May 2005."
