John Crichton is the main character on Farscape. A physicist and astronaut, he is testing an atmospheric slingshot theory in his Farscape 1 space module when an accident sends him through a wormhole to another part of the galaxy. He joins up with the crew of Moya, which is trying to escape from the Peacekeepers. Originally chased because Captain Bialar Crais blames him for the death of his brother, Crichton later encounters an alien race which implants extensive knowledge about wormholes in his brain. This makes him the target of Scorpius, who wants to use the wormhole knowledge as a weapon.

Onboard Moya, Crichton meets and falls in love with Aeryn Sun, a former Peacekeeper. After many trials and tribulations, the two eventually get married and have a child.
