Joeromano

Joseph Louis Romano (1949-2017) was a songwriter, composer and musician who contributed songs to Sesame Street during the late 1970s and early 1980s, most notably words and music to "The Dirtiest Town in the West." 17 of Romano's compositions were published by Sesame Street and the Children's Television Workshop during this period, including multiple songs for the Anything Muppet barbershop quartet.

A native of Houston, Texas, Romano graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 1972 with a B.A. in English Literature. In 1984, Romano paired with his future wife Susan Elliott as both the jazz pairing Mood Indigo and the children's group the Non-Toxic Band (the latter using his own songs). He also performed in concert with Count Basie and Rich Little, among others, and served as the music director for the Texas Theatre Foundation.
