Jerry Mayer (1941-2003) was a New York-based character actor, primarily on stage. He appeared on the Aliens in the Family episode "Bobut Conquers All" as a plumber, hypnotized by Bobut to romance Sally.
Mayer was an active performer on and off-Broadway, including many appearances in Joseph Papp's Shakespeare Festival productions, notably as Don John in 1973's Much Ado About Nothing (which was recorded and aired on CBS). He frequently worked with stage director Andre Gregory (as the Mad Hatter in a 1970 Alice in Wonderland and as Waffles in the filmed Vanya on 42nd Street). Mayer also performed in self-scripted one-man shows, including the Obie award-winning Taudshow (1978, as playwright Antonin Artaud) and You Know Al He's a Funny Guy (1980, as Albert Einstein).
Mayer's film credits included Simon (with Alan Arkin), Single White Female (with Bridget Fonda), and the 2000 movie Joe Gould's Secret (with Ian Holm), while TV included guest roles on Miami Vice, The Equalizer, Ed, and Law & Order (in parts ranging from car salesman to defense attorney).
