Jacques Roach is a cockroach with a French accent.
He first appeared in The Jim Henson Hour episode "Aquatic Life," piloting a submarine with a crew of rats and sheep. His name and accent are a reference to the famed French underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau. Later in the series, he played the part of a French chef, often competing with the Swedish Chef.
The same puppet and a similar voice were used in 1994 on The Animal Show as Yves St. La Roache.
The roach also appeared as a pirate in the 1996 film Muppet Treasure Island. He was once again performed by Steve Whitmire. However, for his brief line in the Cabin Fever number, Jerry Nelson did his singing voice.
