"I'm Gonna Always Love You" music video

Music video.

"I'm Gonna Always Love You" is an original song written for The Muppets Take Manhattan.

The song was performed during a fantasy sequence while Kermit and Miss Piggy took a carriage ride through Central Park, in which Piggy imagined what it would have been like if the Muppets had known each other as babies.

Baby Piggy leads baby versions of Kermit, Fozzie, Gonzo, Scooter, and Rowlf as they sing in their nursery about Piggy's plans for when she grows up. No matter what happens, however, Piggy insists that she's "gonna always love" Kermit.

The puppets, costumes, and settings used in this sequence would be the inspiration for the animated Muppet Babies TV series.

Music video[]

A music video of "I'm Gonna Always Love You" was produced and shown on The Merv Griffin Show when the Muppets appeared to promote The Muppets Take Manhattan. Clips of the song sequence were used from the movie. In addition to the Muppet Babies, the video featured Kermit, Miss Piggy, a band of Muppet pigs, Jim Henson wearing flippers, and a live pig named Dorothy Pig Newton and a frog named Vito.[1]

The video features brief parodies of the chair-dancing sequence from Flashdance (with Miss Piggy taking the Jennifer Beals role), The Police's video for "Wrapped Around Your Finger" (Baby Piggy dancing in a black area filled with rows of candles), Michael Jackson's video for "Billie Jean" (squares of flooring light up under the live pig and Henson as they move as well as a single sequined white glove worn by Henson), the Francis Barraud painting His Master's Voice (the live pig listening to a gramophone in place of the dog), and 2001: A Space Odyssey (Baby Piggy as the Star Child scored by an excerpt of "Also sprach Zarathustra"). The video also featured clips of Miss Piggy on her motorcycle from The Great Muppet Caper.

The music video was directed by Jim Henson and was shot on April 10 and 11, 1984.[1]
