"How Do I Know?", also called "How Do I Know I'm Here?", is a chronicle of Big Bird's brief existential crisis. Big Bird cannot see his shadow on the ground so does not know that he's not "over there," or lost where he can't be found. Gordon, Bob and Susan explain to Big Bird different ways that he can be sure that he's really there.

Big Bird is finally convinced of his existence when Susan points out how many people are with him, telling him that they love him.
