Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954) was a French artist, known for his use of colour and his fluid, brilliant and original draughtsmanship. His painting "Blue Nude II" was spoofed as "Blue Nude II" in the Muppet Art: 1999 Calendar.

The Sesame Street character Murray Matisse is also a parody on the artist.
