Henning was one of the main characters on Sesamstrasse, the German version of Sesame Street, for the first years of the show (1978-1979), making him one of the two first human characters on the show.

He was played by Henning Venske, and even though the character's last name was never revealed, the show made it appear as if the actor was basically playing himself.

He was good friends with Muppet characters Samson, Tiffy and even with Uli von Bödefeld, for the most part. Henning was paired with human character Lilo for his entire run on the show, being later replaced by Uwe Friedrichsen.

Because the street scenes were repeated in new episodes for several years after, and intermixed with newly produced material, it appeared as though he was merely one of several male counterparts to Lilo. This also gave the audience the impression that he "lived" on the street well into the early 1990s.
