"Help Me Make It Through the Night" was written by Kris Kristofferson and became a hit for country artist Sammi Smith in 1971.

Kris performed the song as a duet with Miss Piggy, backed by the Electric Mayhem, as the opening number in episode 301 of The Muppet Show.

As Kermit introduces the pair, Piggy sticks her head through the curtain to remind him that it is a "very sexy number." When her preemptive attempt to make Kermit jealous fails, Piggy throws herself at Kris during the number. Although he can barely keep a straight face during her antics, Kris does give his costar several smooches once the song is over.
