You can also start a new page in any of the following ways:
- Create a link to another page. When you're editing an existing page, you can put double square brackets around any phrase, [[like this]], to create a new link. After you save the page, that link is active -- and if it's not linking to an existing page, then it'll lead you to a form to create the new page.
- Start from an existing link. As you read through the articles, you'll come across red links, which means those pages haven't been written yet. Clicking on a red link takes you to a page that says "You have followed a link to a page that doesn't exist yet." Just start typing in the edit box, and then click the save button.
- Type out the URL. You can also go directly to a new page by changing a URL in the taskbar. Just create an address: http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Sample Title. If the article doesn't exist, then you'll get a chance to create a new page.
- Start in the Muppet Wiki:Sandbox. You can also start writing your new article in the sandbox, which is a testing area for new members. You can edit the sandbox, add your link, and then click the link to add your new page.
Starting a new page on wiki takes only a couple of clicks and is an important part of contributing to a wiki.
Step-by-Step
Edit
- Click on the contribute button on top right of your wiki. Here you will be presented with a dropdown menu where you will see a link to "Add a Page"
- The "Create a new article" box will open
- You can choose the article name by typing it in the box. This name will become the last part of the page's URL.
- Decide between a standard page layout or a blank page. The standard layout provides an image place holder and section headings. The preload contents for the "Standard layout" are stored at MediaWiki:Newpagelayout on your wiki and can be edited by local admins.
- A second way to create a page is by clicking on any red link on your wiki (which can be created by linking to a page that does not exist). You will then be brought into edit mode where you can add your content.
Options Edit
The "Editing" tab of Special:Preferences includes options for page creation:
- Use blank page as default for creating a new page - This makes the blank option on the right be the default on the popup.
- Disable Create Page pop-up - If checked, this disables the box for you.
