Hades was the ruler of the Greek Underworld and the God of the Dead.

Hades was featured in story of "Orpheus and Eurydice". After Orpheus' music softened the hearts of Hades and Persephone. Hades granted that Eurydice be allowed to return with him to the world of the living under the condition that Orpheus not look back until he had reached the upper world.
