"Bearigan's Island" on Muppet Babies.

Gilligan's Island (1964-1967) was a sitcom about a group of people who became shipwrecked on a deserted island. The show aired on CBS for three seasons, for a total of 98 episodes. Although the series only aired for three seasons, it enjoyed high ratings, and through syndication became iconic to multiple generations. It also spawned several TV reunion movies and two Filmation animated series (one of which, Gilligan's Planet, inevitably sent the castaways into space).

The same studio backlot watertank that served as the lagoon on Gilligan's Island would later be used as Kermit's Swamp in the "Rainbow Connection" opening of The Muppet Movie.[1]

  • Sesame Street Episode 2220 features two pigs named Lovey and Thurston (after the Howells) who are summoned by pig calls.
  • The Muppet Babies episode "Muppet Island" features a parody of this show entitled "Bearigan's Island" with Fozzie as a parody of Gilligan (named Bearigan), Skipper Kermit, and the others (excluding Animal) as the rest (Piggy as Ginger, Scooter as Thurston Howell III, Skeeter as Mrs. Howell, Gonzo as the Professor, and Rowlf as Mary Ann).
  • On an appearance on Friday Night Videos, Clifford claims part of his job in the Muppets is to make them more hip, citing their tropical outfits for the show as in need of correction. He goes on to say that "we look like a lost episode of Gilligan's Island. I'm Skipper and [Kermit]'s 'Little Buddy'."
  • Episode 304 of Dinosaurs features two references. The Antediluvian Broadcasting Company's network schedule board includes Gilligan's Test Pattern. Later, after watching The Professor Show, Earl thinks that there should be a show with a professor on an island with a millionaire and a movie star.
  • In a "welcome back" scene for The Muppet CD-ROM: Muppets Inside, Kermit and Fozzie are seen watching Gilligan's Island while waiting for the player to return. Fozzie calls Kermit his "little buddy."
  • In the Farscape episode "Crackers Don't Matter," when John Crichton comes across D'Argo and Chiana attempting to steal Crichton's module, he says, "Gilligan and Mary Ann. Maybe you're Ginger. I'd have to, uh, see you in a Wonderbra to know. Where are you guys taking the Minnow?"
