In the Getting Ready for School album, Big Bird wants to find a place where he can meet new friends, play games, and learn about mooses. Gordon, Susan, Maria and Olivia lead Big Bird in an imagination game where they pretend that Big Bird is going to school for the first time.

Big Bird appears in the introduction for every track, and Oscar makes an appearance in the introduction for "It's Your Birthday", but all of the songs are sung by the human cast.

All the songs on this album were written by Paul Parnes.
