George Gaynes (b. 1917) is a Finnish-American character actor best known for playing the near-senile Commandant Lassard in the Police Academy movies, and Henry on the sitcom Punky Brewster. Gaynes was the first actor to guest voice on Dinosaurs as the Chief Elder, in the two-parter "Nuts to War". Other credits include key roles in Tootsie and the 1983 version of To Be or Not to Be starring Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft.

Among Gaynes many guest spots are appearances in The New Lassie, WKRP in Cincinnati, The Six Million Dollar Man, Mission: Impossible, the soap opera General Hospital, Columbo, The Patty Duke Show, Cheers and Bonanza.
