Gaffer is the bedraggled, one-eyed cat which usually hangs around backstage in the late seasons of The Muppet Show. The cat was introduced for the first time in Episode 419: Lynda Carter.

Gaffer was occasionally involved in the on-stage antics as well, notably providing a distraction during Foo-Foo's dog act in Episode 520: Wally Boag and playing the title role in "The Cat Came Back" song sketch from Episode 523: Linda Ronstadt. In the latter episode, if you listen very carefully, you'll hear Gaffer speak (or rather meow) for the first and last time. The character was also one of the denizens of the Happiness Hotel in The Great Muppet Caper. In 2004, the character was sculpted as a mini-figure accessory for the Pops Action Figure.
