"Frog Struggle Song" was originally written for a Sesame Street insert and sung by composer Joe Raposo over a footage of a tree frog climbing a tree. The lyrics begin "It's a long hard climb, but I'm gonna get there...I'm climbin' to the mornin' sun."

In 1996, Jerry Nelson recorded the song for a new insert featuring footage of a kid riding a bike with training wheels. For this version, the lyrics were changed to "It's a long hard road, but I'm gonna get there." This version of the song was released on the 1998 CD Elmo's Lowdown Hoedown.
