Fred, the Munchos Spokesman, appeared in three Munchos commercials in 1969. The soft-spoken, suited character presented a more sedate contrast to Arnold, an early version of Cookie Monster.

The puppet used for Fred would be recycled as the violinist Twill for the Ed Sullivan Show sketch "The String Quartet", and later as Zelda Rose.
