Fred is a man who lives in isolation on Hog Island. He possesses a magic pearl which enables him to transform into anything he wishes. Once a resident of Lighthouse Island, he obtained the item from Clara Buford's father upon his passing. When Clara plots to take the pearl back, Fred protects his territory by becoming a sea monster, a giant bird and a creature with a long tentacle which menaces the invaders to his home.
