"For Me and My Gal" was first popularized by the vaudeville team of Van and Schenck, and became a standard in vaudeville acts. It gained renewed popularity as the title song of a 1942 movie starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly.
Kelly sang the song on The Muppet Show as part of the closing medley on episode 501. Rowlf at the piano is trying to convince Gene to sing "Singin' in the Rain", but Gene keeps turning the familiar intro into different well-known songs, such as this one.
Mulch, as the Hunchback of Notre Dame, sang a parody of this song, "For Me and My Goyle", to his gargoyle bride in the opening number of episode 509.
