Pferd is searching for some delicious carrots when he overhears Rumpel claiming that he is building the world's best search machine. Pferd hurries over to Rumpel to hear more about the machine. Rumpel tells Pferd that the machine is able to find everything a Grouch could ever want. Pferd is certain that the machine will also be able to find him some carrots.

Pferd asks the machine where his carrots are. Rumpel tells Pferd to move out of the way so he can start his machine; he is excited to see what Grouchy things it will find. The machine starts, and right away it begins to collect various things from the ground, including Nils' new sneaker. Rumpel is happy his machine works.

Pferd is convinced that Rumpel's machine seeks the wrong things. Meanwhile, Rumpel is making a few adjustments to his machine. Nils tells Rumpel to get his shoe out of the machine, as he is in a hurry. Pferd tells Rumpel that he thought the machine could find him some carrots, as he is very hungry. He tells them that the machine is set to find old junk--all the things a Grouch likes. Nils tells Rumpel that his shoe is not old and starts to see if he can find a way to get his shoe out. Pferd decides to help Nils. Rumpel tries to stop them but they pull the machine away. Rumpel pulls a lever and the machine starts to spray its content over the entire street, including Nils' shoe. It also blows away some hay that was covering Pferd's carrots.

Someone has eaten Ernie's cookies, and Sherlock Hemlock investigates the case. He asks Ernie questions about the cookies, when Cookie Monster comes by with cookie crumbs on his fur. Sherlock interrogate Cookie Monster, and he comes to the conclusion that Cookie is the thief. Cookie Monster admits it, saying that he is full now and gives Ernie the last cookie, but Sherlock ends up taking it as payment.

Ernie and Bert each have a cookie, but Bert thinks they have a problem: the cookies don't look the same. Ernie's cookie has a gummy bear on it and his doesn't. Ernie solves the problem by eating the gummy bear.
