Fluter-tooters

Flutter-Tooters are a species of bird created specifically for Sesame Street. They are small and have purple bodies with matching tufts on the tops of their heads. Lovable though they are, they have their shortcomings. For instance, their songs, which they differentiate based on how they're feeling at the moment, are very loud and sound worse than nails scraping down the blackboard. Plus,while they're good at flying, they have a habit of crash-landing in the style of Super Grover.

The earliest known appearances of these birds were in the late 1980s, when they were often seen at Birdland. Most notably, in episode 2504, one of them stuck his head into Olivia's dressing room to tell her it was almost time for her to take the stage. Here, he was referred to simply as Tooter. A few years later, in episode 2876, he was the main focus of the street story, in which he was named Floyd. He was looking for a new home because he was left homeless after all the Opple-dopple trees his species called home had been destroyed. Gina takes Floyd to the wildlife reserve, where a ranger builds a new birdhouse for him.Then, his friends, Flo, Flip, and Felix Flutter-Tooter to join him in his new home.
