Variety

Variety is a weekly entertainment trade magazine founded in New York City in 1905, currently published in Los Angeles, California. A daily edition was founded in Los Angeles in 1933 with a New York City daily edition added in 1998; both ceased publication in 2013.

The magazines features industry insider stories on the behind the scenes aspects of Hollywood and the entertainment world. The magazine pulished the first film review in 1907, and continues to be a leader in information on filmmaking.

Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy appeared on the cover of the 1980 National Association of Television Program Executives Convention issue. The issue was shown in the documentary Of Muppets and Men.

Rizzo, Gonzo, Kermit, Animal, Miss Piggy, Rowlf and Fozzie Bear appeared on the cover of a December 1995 issue, "Celebrating 40 Years of Jim Henson Productions."

Kermit the Frog appears on the cover of the March 11, 2014 issue to promote Muppets Most Wanted in an article by Ramin Setoodeh titled "It's Not Easy Making Green: The rise and fall — and rise again — of America's favorite frog and his band of Muppets." [1]

Headline Howie's rhyming headlines in Episode 0796 of Sesame Street ("Snuff Stuff Just Fluff") are references to the infamous Variety headline "Sticks Nix Hick Pix".

A cow is seen reading a copy of Variety in Episode 0912 of Sesame Street, bemoaning the abundance of "cattle calls."

Floyd Pepper reads copies of Variety backstage in episodes 420 and 423 of The Muppet Show.

Kermit reads a copy of Variety in the November 8, 1982 edition of The Muppets comic strip.

In The Muppets Take Manhattan, the gang reads through Variety, looking for Broadway producers who will support their show on several occasions and in promotional photos for the film.

The magazine was spoofed with Muppet Variety, the "in-house" newsletter for Jim Henson Productions.

In a Sesame Street sketch, Grover appears as a newspaper salesman. As he reads through the paper, he finds the headline "Sticks Nix Hick Pix" (adding "see Page Six").

A mock version of Daily Variety is featured during the end credits of The Muppets, with a headline reading "Miss Piggy Promises to Stay Out of the Limelight!" and the subtext "Kermit: We Need Some Time Alone."
