The Muppet Show pilot and Season 1 (1975 - 1977) |
The first Floyd Pepper puppet closely adheres to Michael Frith's original design (seen below). The design notes mention "lenticular eyes", an effect that was only used in one shot during the "Love Ya to Death" musical number in The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence.
In the first season of The Muppet Show, Floyd retains his original Sgt. Pepper outfit but occasionally wears a tux (without his hat) when playing in the orchestra. By this time, the colors of Floyd's skin, nose and hair have paled with age.
The Muppet Show Season 2 (1977-1978) |
Floyd's shades are replaced with sunglasses-esque eyes that can blink, similar to Mahna Mahna's. He also starts wearing his hat all the time.
The Muppet Show Season 3 (1978-1979) |
Floyd's sunglasses-esque eyes are larger and closer together. Once again, Floyd's skin, nose and hair have paled.
The Muppet Show Season 4 (1979-1980) |
Floyd has a much brighter skin color and has a longer and thicker nose.
The Muppet Show Season 5 (1980-1990) |
Floyd begins to wear a striped red suit, which he continues to wear in his appearances up until the mid '80s, including The Muppets Go to the Movies, The Great Muppet Caper, and The Muppets Take Manhattan.
Muppets TV (2006-2009) |
Floyd's lower jaw is reshaped, leaving him with a less rounded chin and a more rounded lower lip. His foam skin is now covered in lavender fleece. His most regularly worn outfit, starting with a Muppetism and up to the Studio DC: Almost Live specials, is a blue jacket with a dark gray undershirt.
Give a Day. Get a Disney Day. promotion and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (2009-present) |
Floyd's nose shrinks slightly and becomes more red. He switches to an outfit closely resembling his original costume, and occasionally wears a more casual green and black checkered shirt, and normal clothes. The puppet was given new mustache and eyebrow feathers for The Muppets Mayhem.

Design sketch by Michael Frith (1974) |
This original sketch shows Floyd donning a blue nose and outfit, both of which were changed to red tones in puppet form. He was further designed to appear with a more decorated hat and a gold earring. |
