SCENE 1 | Herry Monster shows Oscar the brick tower heโs just built for everybody in the middle of the sidewalk; being a Grouch, Oscar doesnโt care for the nice gesture at all and leaves. Maria asks Herry to get rid of it since the tower is built right in front of 123 Sesame Street, making it difficult for her to bring her groceries inside. David angrily tells him it needs to go as well after walking into it. Oscar returns when he notices everyone getting upset at Herry; he assumed he was the only one everyone gets upset with. Oscar comes to Herry's defense when Maria confronts him again, even offering to take the bricks to scatter around his living room. He then tells Herry theyโre going to be real Grouch pals and shakes his hand, though Herry is a little cautious about this idea.

SCENE 3 | Herry wants to play with Oscar, but Oscar refuses to play with anyone who isn't a Grouch. He gives Herry some tips on how to behave: never be nice, and always throw away something pleasant when it's given to you. Herry is put to the test when Maria surprises him with a flower in a pot. Not wanting to disappoint Oscar, Herry throws the pot to the ground and shatters it. He yells for Maria to go away, but when she gets upset and is about to storm off Herry immediately apologizes for his actions, tearfully explaining that he was doing it just so Oscar will play with him. Maria sees how important this is to Herry and agrees to help by pretending to be angry when Oscar peeks out of his can. Seeing what transpires between the two, Oscar praises Herry for his nastiness.
