Knickerbocker contracted with Children's Television Workshop from 1975 to 1982 to produce dolls of the Sesame Street characters.

During the time that Knickerbocker held the Sesame Street license, the plush they made were released multiple times with slight variations.

In 1982, the Wallace Berrie Company (later named Applause Inc.) acquired Knickerbocker's Applause division, and with it, the Sesame Street license.

In Italy, the plush were distributed by Kinderbaby, though they retained Knickerbocker tush tags.
