George Carlin (1937-2008) was a comedian and actor known for his social commentary and views on various taboo subjects. His "seven dirty words" routine was used in a U.S. Supreme Court case regarding indecent material on television, and the list has often been referenced in popular culture in such shows as Mystery Science Theater 3000, That '70s Show, Everybody Hates Chris, and The Daily Show. Carlin appeared on two episodes of The Jimmy Dean Show which featured Rowlf the Dog and he hosted the first episode of Saturday Night Live which also featured Jim Henson's Muppets.

His acting work included voicing Filmore in Pixar's Cars, playing Mr. Conductor on Shining Time Station (and narrating Thomas & Friends), Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, and three films for Kevin Smith.

  • Elated that he's at Jay Leno's house in The Muppets episode "Hostile Makeover", Fozzie Bear swipes a candy dish to commemorate the occasion, fitting the dish perfectly on his head and hiding it under his hat. When he returns to Leno's home, he learns that Leno had originally stolen the candy dish from Carlin many years ago. Carlin's dish came to an unfortunate end when Fozzie dropped it in Leno's driveway prior to his intention to return the object.

Muppet Mentions[]

  • In Carlin's book When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?, one of his random thoughts is: "Am I the only one who thinks the Muppets weren't funny?"
